Lagos was'nt all that bad! Sure it had its bad points, but at least one only had to spend (on average) 24 hours in the "Airport Hilton" or latterly the Eko hotel.
Chicken piri piri was quite good, as was the onion omelette for breakfast at the Airport hotel.
The allowances were quite good as well - £90.00 (if i remember rightly) for a 24 hour layover. Sometimes I would do 2 a week!!
I remember when the crew bus did not arrive at the Hotel and we had to use taxis. The taxi drivers used to run on fumes, and we had to stop to put fuel in the taxi; then the taxi driver could not remember the way to the Airport.
Doing the amount of Logos's I managed to do, sure made life sweet when One went to North/South America.

I remember Russ - you were Superchief on my first trip there; I shan't say how long ago it was....but we were at the Ecko Vic. Island. I mostly used to enjoy the trips. I spent three Christmases there - two rostered and one call out. Boxing day at Badagry beach was great, only the sea was pretty dangerous with strong currents - definitely to be avoided if you'd drunk too much, let alone if you hadn't!! Did you see the recent series 'Welcome to Lagos?'

The classic Lagos "hilton' Hotel breakfast : Poached Egg on toast with baked beans : Poached egg cracked into boiling water = safe to eat + baked beans out of a can = safe to eat + grilled bread = safe to eat - I never see a poached egg on toast without thinking of those days in Lagos! What about the 5 day slips in the rainy season - there was only so much Trivial Pursuit one could play! Ah Memories!

Ah! perhaps this is why we had such a great time with a lovely crew on one of the best South American trips when you were Chief Steward Russ. We got stuck going up and down, but not getting back to base. Can't remember anybody worrying about it though.

I loved going to lagos, short flight, good beer, enjoyed the films in the crew room and the disco/bar, never made b/fast tho, and maybe once or twice to the pool but good days, have a photo of the rooms and will put it up soon.
