Rosemary David Whitten Did Banjul used to be named Bathust and se used to stay in huts built for construction workers. I used to really love that place. The food was sent down by the company and there was a lovely man at the hotel who used to cook it all for us, including getting ants in the bottom of the soup. Didn't worry, just left the ants!

Rosemary, I think it may have been Lungi, Freetown where crews stayed in the huts built for the airport construction workers. I too have stayed there. I remember the crew food being sent in the 707 holds in large blue plastic polar boxes which had a special red label on them to stop them being unloaded at Yundum Airport, Banjul which was, as you say, known as Bathurst before Gambian independence .
